Alfonso Lucini Mateo

Graduated in Spanish Philology, he taught Spanish language and literature at the Foreign Languages University in Beijing.

As a writer and translator he contributes to Revista de Occidente and some other publications and was Co-director to the magazine Inventario.

As a career diplomat since 1988 he has served in the Spanish Embassies in Syria and Australia and has been seconded as Chief of Staff and Senior Political Adviser to the team of the European Special Envoy for the Middle East Peace Process.

Among other positions at the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs he has held those of Director- General for International Affairs and Director-General for Foreign Policy, Europe and Security.

He has also been Ambassador of Spain to the Political and Security Committee of the European Union in Brussels as well as Ambassador of Spain in Italy and Greece.

At present he holds the position of Special Ambassador for Middle East and Mediterranean Affairs at the Foreign Ministry in Madrid.
